Energy Subsidies for thermostatic valves, room thermostats, optimizers, and temperature control systems

Energy subsidies

Snugr, your heating management and optimisation solution, is eligible for grants in the Walloon Region and the Brussels Region.

Snugr clients typically achieve savings of 20 to 40% on their heating consumption. These grants give you the opportunity to shorten the payback period on your investment.

Current situation: ongoing reform, heating/regulation grants abolished

On 13 February 2025, the Walloon government reformed the energy grant system. Simplified grants (without audit) for heating and minor works have been abolished.

Base grant amounts have been reduced by an average of 60%, with a cap of 70% of works costs for low incomes (R1 and R2) and 50% for middle incomes (R3 and R4). This temporary regime will be replaced by a new global regime from 1 October 2026.

Thermostatic valves or room thermostats can only be covered as ancillary works, in particular when installing a heat pump. Outside this context, there is no longer a standalone grant for thermal regulation (valves/optimisers alone) in Wallonia since February 2025.

Public sector: UREBA Grant

Who is eligible?

The UREBA grant targets public-law entities — such as municipalities, provinces, Public Social Welfare Centres (CPAS/OCMW), police and emergency zones — as well as non-commercial organisations including schools, hospitals, swimming pools, and associations pursuing philanthropic, scientific, technical or educational goals. The building concerned must, following the works, remain dedicated to the applicant's public or non-commercial mission for at least three years after acceptance of the works.

Which works are eligible?

Explicitly listed eligible works include the replacement and improvement of the heating system, covering condensing boilers, system partitioning, thermostatic valves and controls. Intelligent heating control (optimisers) also falls under the category "installation of high-performance energy systems". Source: Wallonie Energy

Amounts and rates:

The grant generally covers between 40% and 70% of eligible costs. Amounts may be increased for educational establishments or social-interest organisations. Source: Financial Aid

Key conditions:

The eligible costs of the application must amount to at least €5,000 incl. VAT (works in several buildings may be combined to reach this threshold if they form part of a single set of specifications). Cumulation with other grants is possible provided the total does not exceed 100% of eligible costs. Source: Wallonie Energy

⚠️ Critical point for Snugr: The application must be submitted before ordering and carrying out the works, which may begin at the earliest after notification of the grant decision. Works must be completed and accepted within three years of that notification. This means the public client must file the application BEFORE placing a Snugr order (the tender may however be published before the application).

Post-works obligation:

Receipt of the grant triggers an obligation to provide the administration with information on the building's energy consumption every year for ten years. This is precisely where Snugr's smart-metering solution — which allows you to monitor the consumption and production of water, gas, energy or electricity — becomes a genuine asset, as it provides this information easily within the same interface as your Snugr heating management solution. Energy Grants in the Brussels Region

Logo Brussels

Private sector

👉 In 2026, in the absence of a Brussels government, there remains uncertainty about the availability of grants. Keep an eye on renolution.brussels for the resumption of 2025-2026 grants.

The Brussels-Capital Region offers grants for temperature regulation works in existing buildings (new builds excluded). Anyone involved with the building has access to the RENOLUTION grants system: owner-occupiers, landlords, tenants, property managers, building managers…

The grant amount varies according to income:

Income Grants for thermostatic valves Grants for room thermostat or optimiser
All types of applicants €15 / valve €40 / thermostat or optimiser
between €37,600 and €75,100 / year €25 / valve €70 / thermostat or optimiser
≤ €37,600 / year €40 / valve €100 / thermostat or optimiser

All grant applications are submitted after the works, within 12 months of the last final invoice for those works. Max. 1 application for identical works per 10-year period.

The amount of these grants and their availability depend on the Brussels Region. More information on energy grants for heating regulation available in Brussels can be found here: https://renolution.brussels/fr/aidesfinancieres/j6-chauffage-et-chauffe-eau-regulation-thermique.

Grant applications and simulations are made on the IRISBOX website.

Public sector

RenoClick Grant

The RenoClick grant is intended for local, regional or community public authorities in the Brussels-Capital Region. It covers tertiary buildings: schools, administrative offices, nurseries, care homes, sports halls, cultural centres, museums and swimming pools. Hospitals, universities and housing are excluded. Liquidation requests could be submitted up to 30 June 2026 at the latest. Renolution

⚠️ This programme appears to be nearing its end (liquidation deadline: 30 June 2026). For new applications, the situation remains blocked pending the formation of a new Brussels government (same situation as for private individuals).

The Renolution J6 grant (thermal regulation):

The J6 grant was available for all buildings located in the Brussels-Capital Region, including non-residential ones, provided they were built at least 10 years before the application. It was accessible to both natural and legal persons (including municipalities, non-profit associations, etc.). This grant is currently suspended pending a government decision (no grants for 2025 invoices). Renolution
